New Apple leak reveals the possibility of a more expensive iPhone model, “Ultra” coming out as early as 2024. iPhone Ultra is according to reports “an even higher-end iPhone above both Pro models”, expected to launch with the 16th lineup.
The Ultra would be the fifth phone model and will be positioned above the other existing models, iPhone, iPhone Plus, iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max. Its price is also expected to exceed the iPhone 14 Pro Max price tag, which starts at $1,099. Meanwhile, iPhone 15 will arrive later this year and as rumours so far suggest will feature USB-C port for charging and may even use haptic volume and power buttons. The Pro Max model will reportedly get a periscope lens offering a better optical zoom.
“Apple has internally discussed adding a higher-end iPhone to the top of its smartphone lineup. And it’s already been doing more to distinguish its Pro models from standard iPhones, giving consumers a reason to pay up,” writes Mark Gurman about the Ultra model, for Bloomberg.
Apple Inc. Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook, said last week during an earnings call that “the iPhone has become so integral into people’s lives. It contains their contacts and their health information and their banking information and their smart home and so many different parts of their lives, their payment vehicle and – for many people. And so I think people are willing to really stretch to get the best they can afford in that category.”
In 2022, the best-selling phone model was iPhone 13 and according to Statista, in the fourth quarter of its 2022 fiscal year alone, Apple generated 42.63 billion U.S. dollars in revenue from the sales of iPhones. The overall best-selling iPhone ever is iPhone 6 which sold more than 222 million times since its release in 2014.
